Photos of the temples of Angkor - this is Banteay Srei

Banteay Srei means "Citadel of the women". It is a favorite for a lot of people. Lonely Planet claims that Banteay Srei has "some of the finest stone carving seen anywhere on the planet". This opinion is implied in much of what is written about Banteay Srei.

Banteay Srei was built in the second half of the 10th century. It was rediscovered in 1914 and cleared of vegetation in 1924.

One of the unusual features of Banteay Srei is the small doorways found here - perhaps 5 feet of clearance.

Here is another photo of Banteay Srei's inner courtyard.

This is a photo of the entrance to Banteay Srei. It seemed unique to me of all the temples of Angkor Wat because of the curving lines of its shape.

This is the causeway leading to the entrance to Banteay Srei.
